Photographic Competition ‘Inspires’ Students

Hairdressing students and apprentices have been showing off their skills at the annual ‘Inspire’ hairdressing competition, which gives young people the opportunity to explore different hair styles and techniques, whilst pushing their creative boundaries.

Out of hundreds of applicants, seven City College Plymouth students made it to the final heat held at Aylesbury College. Each student had to submit a photograph of a look they had created to be judged by experts in their field and well-renowned stylists Errol Douglas of Errol Douglas Salons, and Peter Belcher Managing Director of Schwarzkopf Professional.

Stacey Stewart, who studies Hair Services at City College Plymouth, took away two prizes, claiming first place in the ‘Avant Garde’ category and being crowned ‘Overall Winner’. She said: “We all thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and experience of the competition, and the standard of the entries gave judges a tough decision to choose just one winner! I was so surprised to win but I put it down to the skills I learnt at College and a lot of hard work.”

“The students have been preparing for weeks, taking countless hours to create and perfect their looks,” said City College’s Hair Lecturer, Victoria Stacey. “They have all come up with some fantastic ideas and I couldn’t be prouder. This was a great way to meet other young people from up and down the country who aspire to work in the hair and beauty industry. Also hearing from Errol was a real treat and hopefully inspired them all to work hard to get ahead.”
