City College’s media, music and performing arts students have teamed up with Barbican Theatre to organise the first Evolution Festival.

The festival was pitched to Barbican Theatre as an opportunity for young people to gain performance and backstage training. Curated and delivered by students, emerging artists and practitioners from across Plymouth, the showcase will take place over three evenings and feature theatre, dance, music and spoken word.

City College’s Academy Manager of Media, Digital and Performing Arts, Rob Chadwick, said: “We are really proud to be taking a lead role in providing this exciting opportunity for local young people. We’ve really enjoyed working with Barbican Theatre, as the team are experts in cultivating emerging talent on and off the stage. It’s been a great opportunity for our students studying digital, music, performing arts to really make use of the state-of-the-art facilities in our Regional Centre of Excellence for STEM while working on the festival. There is a lot of talent out there and I’m looking forward to seeing the shows”.

Sheila Snellgrove, Barbican Theatre’s Company Director, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with City College on this project which offers Plymouth the opportunity to experience some of the incredible new performance art the City has to offer. The nurturing of emerging talent, such as this, is at the heart of what Barbican Theatre do and I can’t wait to see the results of months of planning and devising.”

Evolution Festival will take place at the Barbican Theatre on Thursday 15, Friday 16, and Saturday 17 March at 7:30pm. Tickets cost £2 per evening or you can attend all three for just £5 (inclusive of all booking fees).
