Learning Through Travel
In 2016 a group of business and engineering students returned from visiting MVV Energie, at their head office in Mannheim, Germany. The group helped to develop English language resources for the company which also operates Plymouth’s incinerator.
Engineering student, Jacob Ayre, aged 18 from Lipson, said: “I now feel more motivated to work hard so I can get a job that will allow me to work in another country. The MVV experience has also introduced me to the idea of Apprenticeship opportunities across the EU.”
Also in 2016, 19 year old Lacee Tuckwell, from Efford, completed her travel and tourism course with five months’ immersive work experience in Italy.
“I worked as a waitress at the five star Hotel Vittoria, in a little town in northern Italy called Brescia. You learn the language so quickly when you’re out there living it every day.
“I was really thrown in the deep end, however, it’s a fun experience to grow up quickly! Everyone says how much more confident I am and it is really good experience for when I apply for cabin crew jobs. I can’t wait to do more travelling!”
