Out of ten City College Plymouth construction students who competed in the recent regional WorldSkills Skillbuild competition, four came away with prizes.

The students competed in the Painting and Decorating, Bricklaying, Cabinet Making, Plastering, and Bench Joinery heats, held at South Devon College. In the Painting and Decorating category students Rebekah Holden, Jonathan Cook and Nathan Teague were each awarded a Certificate of Merit, whilst in the Bricklaying category student Kane Cook received a Certificate of Merit.

Syd Dart, Painting and Decorating Lecturer at the College, said: “We are so proud of our award-winning students – congratulations to them all! All of our students who competed produced some excellent work and represented the College well.”

The students who received Certificates of Merit will now be scored with competitors from other UK regional heats to see whether they have been selected to compete in the national finals later in the year, which will be taking place at the Skills Show at the NEC, Birmingham.
