Mia Kinchin

Mia, a former pupil at Hele’s School in Plympton, opted to study Level 3 Music Performance and Production at City College after being impressed by the quality of the facilities available to students. Here is her experience of studying at the College.

“What really attracted me to City College was the great atmosphere – it was very relaxed, but also very nurturing. The facilities on offer are outstanding, and I knew this was the place that would help me achieve the best outcome and prepare me for a career in music.

“I can’t fault the lecturers: they do everything they can to support us, and they take a genuine interest in our own personal interests and passions. Weekly one-to-one sessions with our tutors are also really useful to address any concerns we might have – both in and out of lectures.

“My confidence as a performer has really grown since I joined the College – this is largely down to the encouragement provided by the lecturers, but also the support shown by other students on the course. I also feel I have been given valuable insight into what a career in the music industry will be like.

“As I am only in my first year, I still have another to complete to gain my diploma: after that I am considering progressing to university; but right now I am just looking forward to being able to perform at the College once again.

“To others considering this course: City College develops you as a performer, but also gives you valuable skills to move into many different possible careers within the industry. If performing is your passion, the staff are always busy arranging opportunities for us to share our work; but they will also work with you on a one-to-one basis to help you really explore whatever your interests might be.”
