Top three reasons for studying painting and decorating at City College

1. An excellent Painting and Decorating Academy, formed in partnership with the Bell Group.

The academy allows students to participate in enrichment activities such as: work experience and community projects, site visits, trade talks/visits/workshops from major paint manufacturing companies, preparing for employment, including interview techniques and CV development. There are also opportunities to apply to the Apprenticeship programme that the Bell Group offers through the College.

2. A long history of student success in skills competitions.

In recent years the College has competed and succeeded, both regionally and nationally, in many trade competitions, including: The Dulux Young Decorator of the Year, The Painting and Decorating Association Apprentice Awards, The Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year and Skillbuild. Recently, one of our apprentices was invited to the Worldskills UK development programme, which allows competitors the opportunity to be selected and represent the UK Squad in the Worldskills vocational championship.

3. Fantastic facilities.

The College has a fantastic workshop facility that allows you to develop your practical skills, covering: preparing surfaces, paint application by brush, roller and spray, applying surface coverings and producing specialist decorative finishes. This is supported and taught by very knowledgeable staff, who will equip you with the skills that you will need to succeed when you step into the industry.

You can study painting and decorating at City College Plymouth at levels 1 and 2 or as part of an Apprenticeship.
