Variable Hours Lecturer – BTEC Level 2 & 3 in Computing

“After I was made redundant in 2008, I found finding stable work a challenge. During this time I started working with the business team at the College, providing bespoke training sessions for their clients.

“I have worked as a computer specialist at several large organisations for almost 25 years and it has always been my intention to move into a teaching role. In 2013 I decided to take time out of employment and study for a BSc (Hons) degree in Computing at the University of Plymouth with the aim of becoming a lecturer in either further or higher education.

“As part of my degree we had to undertake a placement so I approached the College and was offered the role of Variable Hours Lecturer and have been working here ever since. I intend to keep progressing within my role and the College actively encourages growth so in September I will be studying for a DTLLS and CAVA.

“For me, the most rewarding part of my role is imparting my knowledge. I really enjoy delivering lessons; standing up in front of the class and teaching using my own life experiences. It is always great to see students walk away knowing something new.”
