The role with Big Igloo Limited will primarily involve helping to drive online sales both through digital marketing (including social media, PPC, SEO etc) and work on maintaining and improving existing sales channels including our own Shopify based site as well eBay, Amazon etc.

This vacancy arises to work as an apprentice in a small family run business selling predominantly beads and jewellery making supplies both in our Liskeard shop and online (direct and via sales channels). We are looking for someone who is excited by the idea of helping us drive sales further, specifically online.

Your duties will involve assisting with:

  • Social media presence, marketing and communication.
  • Search optimisation using Google Analytics etc to provide better organic search results.
  • PPC campaign management.
  • Customer service for online customers via email, online chat and telephone.
  • Long term maintenance and improvement of our own site in terms of content, structure, design and SEO.  This runs on Shopify (
  • Product Photography and using Lightroom and/or Photoshop to edit photos.
  • Creation and maintenance of listings on sales channels such as eBay, Amazon and Etsy.

A flexible team attitude to helping other members of staff (e.g. helping on the shop floor at busy times).



Clearly as this is an apprenticeship, full training will be provided but we really see this an opportunity for someone who already has a passion for Social Media and eCommerce.  Maybe you’re king or queen of Instagram, a Twitter addict, or a past master of selling your stuff on eBay?  We can help you build on your own skills and move towards a career in these areas.

For this apprenticeship you will not need to attend College on regular intervals, instead all training is delivered at the workplace via assessor visits every 6 weeks. You will be set tasks and assignments to help mentor and guide you through the apprenticeship, building knowledge and skills that are required to complete the full Level 3 Digital Marketing apprenticeship.

Grade 5 or higher passes are required in English Language & Maths to apply for this position. Computer Science GCSE would be an advantage.


Qualities and skills:

We’re looking for a good team player with a sense of humour who can roll their sleeves up and really get involved in building the business.  We have future plans for further shops and a significantly increased online presence.  Are you the right person to be part of that journey?

To be suitable for this position, the most important qualities are tenacity, focus and motivation.  At times, having been given full training, you may be expected to complete tasks with little supervision and complete them within pre-agreed timescales.

As part of the role will involve customer service, we are also looking for great interpersonal skills.



Big Igloo is a fast growing business, with sales increasing at around 100% per year.  Whilst we are still small, we certainly hope to be much bigger in the near future!  This would open up opportunities such as eCommerce Manager, Digital Marketing Manager etc.

Following completion of your Level 3 Digital Marketing apprenticeship there is opportunity for higher qualifications.

This apprenticeship is being managed by City College Plymouth. Upon registration/application you will be invited into the College to find out more about the Level 3 Digital Marketing apprenticeship where they will discuss the content, your responsibilities, your suitability for an apprenticeship and ultimately to assist in securing you interviews with Big Igloo Limited.
