Business and Administration Apprentice

This is a general application for a Business and Administration Apprenticeship. We are currently working with businesses in Plymouth and the surrounding areas to secure opportunities for applicants.
Salary per week:
£4.15 per hour at minimum. Your wage will depend on the hours worked.
An apprentice must work a minimum of 30 hours per week, however most work around 40. Generally working Monday - Friday.
As an apprentice Business Administrator you will generally be working in an office environment, learning a wide range of administrative tasks to support your colleagues and the business as a whole. You may find yourself meeting and greeting business clients, communicating with customers on the phone, producing documents, inputting data into spreadsheets or creating reports. This role will suit you if you are hard working, with a professional manner and are happy communicating with a range of different people daily. As you learn more and gain experience you will take on more responsibility and become a valued team member. Whilst the exact role will vary from job to job you will learn a transferable set of skills which will give you a solid foundation to start a career within the business sector.
Day to day tasks could include:
- Answering the phone and handling customer enquiries
- Take messages and deliver them to the relevant people
- Produce documents and reports
- Maintain physical and electronic filing systems
- Input data
- Greet clients
- Deal with internal and external post
- Complete tasks as directed by colleagues
- Attending meetings and taking minutes
Over the 18 month apprenticeship, you will work towards the following:
- Level 3 Business Administrator Standard
- Behaviours, Skills & Knowledge
- Functional Skills in maths and English at level 2 (if not already exempt through prior qualifications)
You will have regular visits at the workplace from a designated College assessor to observe your progress and competence in the role you are carrying out.
As part of your application you will need to complete a written assessment with the College’s Business assessor to see your current ability, desire and drive to work within this industry. We are not expecting you to have any prior skills or knowledge, just the willingness to succeed and employability factors.

- Good knowledge of IT
- Great communication skills, both written and verbal
- Organised and reliable
- Attention to detail
- Able to manage workload and work to deadlines
- Good timekeeping
Depending on the business you secure your apprenticeship with, will determine what your progression routes are. The College will be able to establish whether the contract of employment is for the duration of the apprenticeship only, or whether future opportunities will be available.
By applying for this position you will go through the College’s assessments and once successful, you will be assigned a Business Engagement Officer who will guide you into employment by finding the best suited workplace.
