Duties:
During this apprenticeship you will be receive training to assist in the care of all residents, subject to company policies and agreed procedures. You will participate in the provision of a high standard of care for all residents. You will receive extensive, on-the-job training and learn a range of skills to assist with the care of residents with a variety of different care needs. This will be a varied role and a great opportunity to start a career in the Care sector.
Duties for this role will include but are not limited to:
- Simple bed-making
- Help to serve meals and prepare and serve beverages under the direction of the person in charge
- Set tables and trays, serve meals, feed residents who need help, prepare light meals, tidy and clear the dining room
- Prepare vegetables
- Undertake domestic and laundry duties where necessary, particularly relevant for night care assistants
- Weigh mobile residents
- Assist person in charge with bathing of residents
- Assist in the care of incontinent residents
- Assist residents with toileting, e.g. Sani-chair or commode
- Assist residents with dressing and undressing
- Assist with care of hair, oral care, pressure areas and nails as requested
- Assist the person in charge to admit and discharge residents with due regard
to relevant procedures such as that relating to property and valuables etc. - Escort residents as requested
- Maintain tidiness and cleanliness in all rooms
- Be aware of hazards in working environment to residents and staff and follow procedures
- Report any breakages or equipment requiring repair to person in charge
- Answer call bells, the door and telephone and greet visitors in a polite, friendly
and professional manner - Wear uniform correctly and maintain a presentable and professional image
- Assist in the promotion of the physical, educational and psychological well-
being of all residents - Provide activity and stimulation of residents in accordance with the Activities
Programme - Help to care for the needs of the dying
Training:
All training to be provided by City College Plymouth in collaboration with the company themselves throughout the duration of the apprenticeship.
On the 15-18 month Level 2 Adult Care Worker apprenticeship standard, you will work towards the following:
- Adult Care Worker apprenticeship standard
- Behaviours, Skills & Knowledge
- Functional Skills in maths and English at level 2 (if not already exempt through prior qualifications)

- Ability to follow instruction
- Good organisational skills
- Good communication skills, including listening skills
Personal qualities
- Behave in a responsible, polite manner at all times
- Be respectful towards the residents
- Be aware of own limitations and know when to ask for help
Desired qualifications
- No qualifications are required but a basic level of maths and English are essential. GCSE’s 4/C or above (or equivalent) in maths and English would be beneficial as you would not need to study these alongside the apprenticeship
- Previous experience or qualifications within Care would be an advantage
