Love coffee? Great opportunity to get involved in a state of the art, environmentally friendly coffee roasting industry. You will gain knowledge from bean to cup with a young growing coffee company in Ivybridge. This vacancy is being managed by City College Plymouth who will deal with your initial application. You will develop an in-depth knowledge of the coffee industry, covering all stages of coffee production including roasting, packing, quality control and brewing skills. You may specialise in a particular area, but the skills you learn on this apprenticeship will allow you to work across all different areas of coffee production which you may be required to support during busy periods.

This vacancy would be a great opportunity for someone to gain hands on experience working within an award winning, artisanal and ethical business whilst gaining a qualification in the trade and skills for life. You will have excellent communication skills and will learn techniques on how to deal with a variety of people in a professional, polite and friendly manner.
For this apprenticeship you will undertake the Level 2 Hospitality Team Member standard specialising as a Barista. This apprenticeship has a duration of 12-18 months and college attendance is required one day per week where you will have theory and practical sessions to enhance your competency in your job role. In addition to college attendance you will have assessor visits at the work place every 6-8 weeks. In order to complete this apprenticeship you will be assessed externally which will involve a multiple choice test, practical observation and a business project.
All training will be delivered by City College Plymouth and Owens Coffee.
Qualities and skills:
To be successful within this industry you will need to be able to communicate easily with people whether it be members of the public or colleagues, be a quick learner and adapt to change.
The ideal candidate will be friendly with an outgoing personality as you will be the face of the business. We require someone who is honest, reliable, trustworthy and presentable. A Level one City and Guilds qualification would be desirable or any prior learning linked to the hospitality industry. You are not expected to know anything about the job role before starting but any knowledge would be desirable.
Following completion of this apprenticeship there may be opportunities for career progression and further study at a higher level.
On completion of this apprenticeship you will have gained the skills and knowledge required to have a long lasting career in this industry.
