Duties:

  • Observing, receiving, and otherwise soak up information from all relevant peers.
  • Carrying out physical activities for the role that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Communicating with others within your team and asking relevant questions to enhance your knowledge.
  • Be aware of health and safety at all times and understand tools, materials and equipment before use.
  • Learn the application of plaster and render and excel in this area throughout your apprenticeship.
  • Carry out other building tasks when asked and required for the job in hand such as; painting and decorating, carpentry, plumbing, flooring and electrical works.
  • Collating tools and materials ready for the task on the job.
  • Tidying up work areas to ensure customers houses are left presentable.
  • Working with others to meet deadlines of tasks.

Training:

As a part of the application process, you may be required to undertake diagnostic assessments with City College Plymouth.

Please ensure that you check your emails for a City College Plymouth application form, this will need to be filled in and returned for you to complete these assessments.

Until these assessments are complete your application will not be viewed by the company.

Qualities and skills:

The chosen candidate must have good personable qualities in order to fit in with the team of contractors that you will be dealing with on a day-to-day basis. This business is fast paced yet friendly and full of hard work and skills which the tradespeople are keen to pass down onto someone who is fully engaged in their business.

It is essential that you are honest, keen and reliable and willing to commit to a minimum of 2 years training.

It’s important for the right person to understand the values of team work and pull their weight at all times, always asking if there is anything else to do when you have finished a task.

You must be able to start work immediately with a team of experienced tradesman and be confident enough to mingle and gel with others.

It is essential you have good time keeping and are able to take instruction.

Prospects:

Progress through the levels will be discussed as you come towards the end of your two year level 2 apprenticeship with opportunities for level 3 available depending on your progress.
