What's it all about?

Take your first step into the fast-growing world of cyber security with this one-year programme, designed for adult students and career changers. This course provides a strong foundation in computing and digital security, preparing you for degree-level study or entry into the tech industry.

Course information

You’ll develop essential knowledge in programming, systems analysis and web technologies, while learning how to identify, prevent and respond to digital threats. Topics such as network protection, system security and logic-based computing will help you build the technical and analytical skills needed to think like a cyber-professional.

Alongside your technical studies, you’ll strengthen transferable skills in problem solving, communication and critical thinking – key for both university success and employment in this high-demand sector. Whether you aim to progress to a cyber-security or computer science degree, or begin your journey in a security-focused tech role, this course will give you the tools and confidence to move forward.
You’ll also gain an understanding of the risks and vulnerabilities faced by computer systems and networks, exploring how attackers exploit these weaknesses through techniques such as penetration testing. In turn, you’ll examine the practical and technical methods used to protect systems, including defences against phishing and physical threats, supported by policies, procedures, legal frameworks and ethical practices to maintain secure digital environments.

To succeed on this course, you’ll need to be 19+, committed to your studies and clear about your career goals.

You’ll need a level 2 qualification in English and maths (such as GCSE grade 4/C or above, or equivalent). If you don’t currently hold these, you may be able to take a skills test as part of the interview process.
Offers may be conditional and could include factors such as English and maths achievement, interview performance, recent study or relevant work experience. If your qualifications don’t meet the entry criteria, please contact us to discuss alternative options.
We also recommend checking entry requirements with your chosen university, where relevant experience may be required.

You will be assessed through a mixture of written assignments, practical projects, presentations, and exams.

On successful completion, you could progress to a wide range of university degrees and career pathways. Many students move on to higher education in computer science, software engineering, and information technology.

The skills gained on this course also prepare you for entry-level roles in the digital and technology sectors, giving you a strong foundation for a rewarding career in one of the fastest-growing industries.

Please note fees are quoted for one year only.
