EARN WHILE YOU LEARN

If you’ve found your way here, you’re already one step closer to your dream job.

With an Apprenticeship, you’ll get work experience, learn new skills and gain qualifications. And you’ll get paid. So, if you’re 15 or over, you could start your dream career as soon as you finish school, or change career direction if you’re over 19.

What is an Apprenticeship?

An Apprenticeship is your chance to kickstart your career while studying for a qualification at college. You’ll work in a real job, get paid a salary, and enjoy all the usual benefits. If you’re 16 or older, living in England, and not in full-time education, this could be the perfect path for you!

Our Offer

Not finished school or can’t find the Apprenticeship vacancy you’re looking for? Register your interest and let us help you find the perfect opportunity.

Finished school and ready to start working? Explore our live Apprenticeship vacancies and apply for a role with one of our employers today.

Here's what you need to do now:

The first thing you need to do is complete our CV Builder Form to create a CV that we can send out to potential employers for you. This is essential as it puts you in our talent pool, which means we can match you with current and upcoming apprenticeship opportunities.

Important: If you applied using a parent or carer’s email, please create your own personal email address and use that in the CV Builder. Employers and our team will need to contact you directly.

Once you’re in the talent pool, one of our team will get in touch to discuss your interests and support you with your applications to live vacancies.

You can also start applying for apprenticeship vacancies yourself if you’d like to. New vacancies go live all the time, and you can check them out in two places:

We also recommend reaching out to local employers yourself with your CV. It can help you secure an apprenticeship faster if you come to us with your employer already lined up.

Apprenticeships are competitive, so we strongly encourage you to apply for a full-time course at the college as a backup. Many of our apprentices actually start on one of these and then move into an apprenticeship later, and in some cases employers prefer to recruit apprentices from our courses so that they know what kind of foundational knowledge they’ll have. You can explore course options here: Search Full-Time Courses

And if you’re not sure what you want to do anymore, get in touch with our careers team via e-mail careers@cityplym.ac.uk or phone 01752 305388.

You’ll find the Apprentice Point on the ground floor at City College, next to the Info Point. Visit us any time Monday–Friday, 9:00am–4:00pm to speak to someone in person.

You can also check out more resources and FAQs on our Apprenticeships Info Page.

If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch.

Good luck — we’re here to support you!

Kickstart Your Career with a Foundation Apprenticeship

If you’re aged 16 to 21, or up to 24 if you have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), are a care leaver or have spent time in prison, a Foundation Apprenticeship could be the perfect way to begin your career!

You’ll earn a wage, gain hands-on experience, explore different career paths and develop skills that employers value – all while taking steps toward a brighter future.

A Foundation Apprenticeship is a real job with built-in training. You’ll gain practical, job-specific skills, work alongside experienced staff, and get paid while you learn. It also includes off-the-job training and dedicated support to help you build confidence and develop essential employability skills. Foundation Apprenticeships offer a strong introduction to a wide range of career paths.

Foundation Apprenticeships are currently available in key sectors such as construction, engineering and manufacturing, and health and social care. These industries are growing rapidly, so you’ll be developing skills that are in high demand.

A Foundation Apprenticeship typically takes a minimum of eight months to complete, but it can be extended to suit individual learning needs. It offers a flexible and often faster route into a career.

If you didn’t pass GCSE English or Maths, you’ll still need to work on them, but don’t worry, you won’t have to re-sit any exams. The focus is on building practical, useful skills.
