ARTIST’S IMPRESSIONS OF ‘TRANSFORMATIONAL’ DEVELOPMENT

Here are the first artist’s impressions of the transformational redevelopment of the Civic Centre – a landmark regeneration project set to reshape the heart of the city. Central to this vision is the new Blue and Green Skills Hub, a state-of-the-art facility that will position Plymouth as a leader in skills development and innovation.

Described as both “talismanic” and “catalytic,” this redevelopment is more than a construction project, it is a bold symbol of renewal, ambition, and confidence in the city’s future. The Skills Hub will serve as a cornerstone for marine and environmental education, delivering cutting-edge training in key sectors such as offshore wind, nuclear, green energy, life sciences, and retrofit technologies.

This new city centre campus will play a transformational role in our community, supporting up to 2,000 students annually across 60 new courses, and is a response to the region’s most pressing challenges. It represents the College’s deep commitment to enabling social mobility and driving inclusive economic growth. By equipping individuals not only with future-focused skills but also with the confidence to thrive, this development will empower the next generation and strengthen the city’s workforce.

The project marks a significant milestone in the College’s long-held ambition to create a major city centre campus. Alongside the Skills Hub, the development will also include a sustainable restaurant, a green spa, and residential apartments, all contributing to a vibrant, accessible, year-round destination for both students and the wider community.
With the Civic Centre being a listed building that has stood dormant for years, its revival is both symbolic and essential. The College, working closely with Plymouth City Council and Homes England, is leading the charge to restore and reimagine this iconic site, transforming it into a beacon of education, opportunity, and civic pride.

This is a pivotal moment for the city. The new Skills Hub is not just about education, it’s about changing lives, revitalising the local economy, and reshaping how Plymouth is seen regionally and nationally.

We will share more updates about this exciting development as we have them.
