Starting his journey in the pool at the tender age of five, this accomplished swimmer demonstrated a natural affinity for water sports from an early age. Training at Southend Swimming Club, he quickly made a name for himself, setting records during his early teens and hinting at the remarkable career that lay ahead.
Specialising in sprint freestyle and butterfly events, he became a dominant force in swimming. Representing Great Britain in five Olympic Games from 1988 to 2008, he displayed exceptional longevity and skill. Over his career, he held an impressive eight World Records in short-course events, cementing his legacy as one of the sport’s greats. His achievements include six World Championships, 11 European titles, and numerous medals, including two coveted Olympic golds. His prowess in the pool made him a national hero and an inspiration to many young athletes.
