Harri

Level 3 Boat Building Apprenticeship – Supported by Princess Yachts

Starting his educational journey at UTC Plymouth, Harri knew he wanted a career in the industry from a young age. But, he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do.

Having spent some time researching his next step, Harri decided an Apprenticeship with City College was the way to go. Choosing this route over a traditional course, Harri felt he was going to get a lot more from getting stuck into practical work than sitting at a desk.

“I really like the hands-on element. We’ve been in the workshop a lot, doing woodwork and joinery and mastering those skills. It’s a great environment to learn in.”

With regular visits from Princess Yachts throughout the Apprenticeship, as well as site visits, Harri is getting to grips with a range of skills needed to jump head-first into a hands-on role.

The Boat Building Apprenticeship not only gives students the basic skills and knowledge needed for a role in carpentry and boat fitting, but comes with a sense of security, too. At the end of his Apprenticeship, Harri will be invited to undergo a short assessment and offered an interview for a full-time position with Princess Yachts.

“If you have the opportunity to do an Apprenticeship, definitely do it. I’ve learned so much already and I’ve still got another 3 years to go!”
