A flying start for Heidi!
Live events student, Heidi, completed the Live Events Production course in 2018 and has been going from strength-to-strength ever since.
Enhancing her confidence in production management and lighting, the course provided Heidi with key skills that she’s been able to use in her current role as a project manager at Colour Sound Experiment. Working on small to medium-scale projects, including touring music festivals, Heidi has taken up many opportunities to travel across the world with her work – including America, Europe and all across the UK.
Learning the key skills in health and safety, electrical power management, computer-aided design and interaction with industry professionals has helped shape Heidi’s working attitude, skill set and allowed her to progress her career at a young age. Project management is a hands-on, fast-paced role that requires flexibility and the willingness to be the first port of call for clients, crew and colleagues – something that the College’s live events courses focus on.
Once Heidi completed her course at the College, she spent a year working on campus as a lighting lecturer during COVID-19. She was amazed at the talent and creativity shown during her time with the students and witnessed some amazing performances, even with heavy restrictions. Along with her students, Heidi learnt unique ways to bring entertainment to people in the most difficult of times, something that has guided her throughout her career.
Speaking fondly of her time at City College, Heidi said: “The live events course really excelled my confidence in the industry and gave me invaluable real-world experience that I still use in my role today.”
Heidi has gone on to work with a range of amazing technicians and had opportunities to be involved in some of the largest corporate events, with some well-known clients such as Land Rover, Jaguar, Dell, EY and many others.
Working in the live events industry comes with a whole host of trials and tribulations, but the live events course equipped Heidi with the knowledge, experience and skills needed to take the industry by storm!
