Meet Kieron

Kieron is studying a Foundation Degree (FdSc) in Sports Therapy & Injury Rehabilitation at City College Plymouth.

He chose the course because it offers a hands-on approach to learning, and studying across both the College and the University of Plymouth campuses gives him access to a wide range of laboratory and educational facilities.

During his time on the programme, he has gained First Aid, functional and advanced sports massage, cupping, taping and mobilisations skills and qualifications.

Alongside his studies, Kieron works with Reach Wrestling as medical cover at ringside events. He provides pre and post‑event massage, taping, clinical advice and strength and conditioning plans, and has even supported first‑year students to build their confidence and skill when working with the athletes.

“When I first started with Reach I was very timid about my own knowledge and shy talking to people. As I worked with the wrestlers over time, I gained confidence in my clinical and diagnostic skills, and in my professionalism.”

Looking ahead, Kieron hopes to complete his FdSc and the additional BSc, then go on to study a master’s degree and work within the NHS as a specialised Sport/MSK Physiotherapist.

“My advice to anyone considering this course is to get into placements quickly. The sooner you start working in the field, the easier it is to apply your knowledge to exams, assessments and everyday practice, and to build confidence working with others.”
