What's it all about?

Start your cyber security journey with this beginner-friendly, fast-track programme designed to build the foundational knowledge you need to confidently begin training towards the industry-recognised CompTIA Security+ (Plus) certification. No previous cyber security experience is required, making this course an ideal first step towards a rewarding career in cyber security.

Course information

You will study:

  • the roles and responsibilities of cyber security teams, and how they collaborate to address security threats
  • how to configure, monitor, and secure Linux and Windows systems to maintain operational efficiency and security 
  • how to configure IP addresses, manage SOHO routers, and secure web browsing
    structured cabling, switches, firewalls, virtualisation, and other enterprise network fundamentals 
  • the tools and techniques used for intrusion detection, incident response, and vulnerability management 
  • how to use Bash scripting to automate tasks and streamline processes
    data security, including backups, database management, and protecting critical information 
  • how to use common industry tools and techniques to identify vulnerabilities, mitigate risks, and respond to security incidents. 

This hands-on course will help you build confidence and practical skills through independent study and guided exploration using the CompTIA CertMaster Learning Platform. Each session will provide guidance and support to help you stay on track while engaging with interactive labs, self-paced online learning, and module-based assessments.

You will also have the opportunity to complete assigned coursework both during sessions and in your own time, giving you flexibility and control over your learning experience.

You must have basic experience with either Windows or Linux operating system management, as the labs move straight into practical cyber security tasks involving hands-on OS interaction and bespoke applications. A reliable broadband connection is also required, as this course is delivered fully online.

You will be assessed through a combination of monitored lab activities, test completions, and coursework.

On successful completion, you can progress towards earning the CompTIA Security+ (Plus) certification, which will help validate your skills and qualify you for entry-level cyber security roles such as Security Administrator, Systems Administrator, or IT Support Specialist.
