The construction industry is of considerable economic and strategic importance across the UK. The construction process is complex, starting with design and planning through to production, to ongoing maintenance and refurbishment. This course is designed for those who are already working in, or aspire to work in, the construction industry in a range of roles, including site managers, site engineers, quantity surveyors, building surveyors and architectural technologists. You’ll study a wide range of topics from mathematics to domestic and large scale construction though a mix of lectures, practical work and fieldwork. Lecturers on this course include professionally qualified and experienced architects, engineers and project managers; so you can be assured of gaining an industry-relevant, employment-focused qualification.

We welcome applications from those who have the following:

  • 48 UCAS tariff points, to include a full level 3 qualification, or an appropriate T Level
  • four GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, to include English, maths and combined science

or alternatively:

  • equivalent qualifications
  • relevant work experience.

Unless you already have a qualification equivalent to a higher national certificate (HNC) or higher, it is recommended that you enrol on the HNC. On satisfactory completion of this two year course, you will be eligible to transfer onto the final year of the Foundation Degree. Should entry requirements not be met then individual cases will be considered.

Assessment will be through a mixture of coursework, in-class assessments, presentations and examinations.

On successful completion of this course, you may be able to progress to:

  • the final year of the BSc (Hons) Construction Project Management degree at the University of Plymouth. Please note that progression will be decided by the University of Plymouth on a case by case basis based on achievement of the FdSc Construction and other relevant professional experience and qualifications.
  • membership of professional institutions such as the Chartered Institute of Building
  • a wide range of careers in the industry, such as a site manager, quantity surveyor, architectural technician or building surveyor.
