What's it all about?

This course is designed for those who are looking to develop their basic skills and knowledge in basic skincare, makeup and hair styling.

Course information

Within this course you will develop your basic skills and knowledge in basic skincare, makeup and hair styling.

You will spend time focussing on strengthening your skills with communication, customer service and client care, three things that are key within most employment areas.

You will study two units – customer service skills and create a hair and beauty image.

You will learn:

  • how to prepare and present yourself for working in industry
  • how to work hygienically and maintain health and safety requirements
  • verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • how to demonstrate professionalism in the workplace
  • the required behaviours of a professional in industry.

You will also develop presentation skills to be able to present your image to an audience and alongside this you will develop skills in curling, straightening and hair up, as well as makeup application.

The content of this qualification really does hold a variety of transferable skills.

There are no specific entry requirements for this course but applicants need to have a keen interest in the sector and a passion to learn and develop their skills.

All work will be assessed through development of a practical portfolio, written assignments and practical observations.

Following successful completion of this course you can progress on to one of the following courses:

  • Level 1 Introduction to Hairdressing, Barbering and Beauty Industries
  • Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy
  • Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing
  • Level 2 Award in Cutting Men’s Hair
  • Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Makeup Artistry
