FAQs
Yes, you must attend your assessment if you wish to study at the College. If you do not complete an assessment, your application will be cancelled and you will lose your potential place on the course.
Please contact the English and Maths Admin Team at englishandmaths@cityplym.ac.uk as soon as possible. Please note that failure to contact us in a timely manner will result in your registered interest being cancelled and you will lose your potential place on the course.
We are currently holding English/maths assessments online in accordance with social distancing requirements. You will be sent an e-mail with your assessment log-in details, with information on how the assessment works and what to do once you have completed your assessment. If you have not received your e-mail, please contact us at englishandmaths@cityplym.ac.uk.
If you have applied for a single subject (English or maths), we allow 30 minutes for that assessment. If you have applied for both English and maths, that will extend to 60 minutes.
In your e-mail, you will be sent a link to a presentation video. We recommend watching this first as it will give you a brief background into our range of English and maths courses, along with information on why we ask you to undertake an assessment.

Following your assessment, you will then have a short interview with one of our English or maths tutors. This will either be online or by telephone.
If you have any English and/or maths certificates, in particular GCSEs at grade D, or previous Functional Skills qualifications, please e-mail a copy of them to us at englishandmaths@cityplym.ac.uk.
As this assessment will be online, you will need access to IT equipment (preferably a computer, laptop or tablet) and a reliable internet connection. If you do not have this, or anticipate any issues completing your assessment online, please contact englishandmaths@cityplym.ac.uk as soon as possible. You can use a pen and paper for both assessments, and a calculator is permitted for use during the maths assessment.
If you think that you will need additional assistance to complete the assessment, please contact us as soon as possible at englishandmaths@cityplym.ac.uk.
