Youth Liaison Team

City College Plymouth is committed to working closely with secondary schools in Plymouth and East Cornwall to ensure their pupils apply for the appropriate course to meet their career aspirations.

We know that good information, advice and guidance is crucial in raising the aspirations of young people.

We can tailor activities to suit your needs, so do contact us if you can’t find what you’re looking for. The College also attends a number of school careers events throughout the year, so please let us know about any events you are holding.

We pride ourselves on delivering a range of informal and informative sessions to students from Year 7 through to Year 13. Regardless of the topic, all presentations are mindful of the various options available to young people, and whilst we will promote the College’s post-16 options where appropriate during our presentations, it is never to the exclusion of other pathways.

  • Alternatives to University – this presentation focuses on the different ways to access university-level study.
  • Apprenticeships – whether you are looking to book a school assembly to fit in with National Apprenticeship Week, or would like to offer your students a talk or interactive workshop, we can help.
  • Employer Expectations – this talk covers everything from first impressions, to the importance of a clean social media presence and can be especially valuable before they embark on their work experience.
  • General – this presentation will provide a broad overview of what the College can offer young people.
  • T Levels – find out more about the next level qualification. Your Year 11s will have the opportunity to be among the first cohort to apply for T Levels. They combine work experience with classroom learning so students complete their studies with both the knowledge and practical skills required by their chosen sector.

Sherford Careers

The Sherford Skills Training Scheme Co-ordinator is based at City College Plymouth. With the primary objective of getting young people involved in building the new town through Apprenticeships, vocational NVQs, work experience and work placements, we are able to deliver assemblies about the construction careers involved in the development, with the option of a follow-up site tour for interested students.

Upcoming Events

Course Taster Sessions

Tuesday 22 – Thursday 24 February 2022, 10.30am – 3.00pm

Whilst many Year 11 and sixth form students will know exactly what they want to do after their GCSEs and beyond, some need the opportunity to try out different sector areas to see what fits. These sessions are a great opportunity for young people to have fun during the half-term break, whilst gaining an insight into the various vocational opportunities available at the College.

Our regular events provide young people and their parents/carers the chance to explore all of the options available.

Course Information Drop-ins

Informal information events staffed by the College’s Apprenticeship team and Careers Advisors.

College Open Days

Our open days are staffed by course lecturers, the College’s Apprenticeship team, Careers Advisors, the Higher Education team and Student Ambassadors. These are the best events to come along to if pupils want to tour our facilities, take part in interactive activities and meet local employers.
