Future filmmakers, creative cinematographers and resourceful reporters were recognised at City College Plymouth’s annual media awards.
The awards celebrated the hard work of students studying creative media, film, graphic design, gaming, and esports. Committed to showcasing the students’ impressive work, attendees were treated to an exhibition of work, including video, printed works from graphic students and playable games, in the College’s dance studio ahead of the main awards ceremony. This experience provided a unique opportunity for the family and friends of students and local employers to see firsthand the creativity and dedication of our students across various disciplines.
The event highlighted the breadth of talent nurtured at the College, from innovative game design to captivating films and cutting-edge graphic design projects. The awards ceremony also served as a platform to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of the teaching staff who continually support and inspire the students. Their commitment to excellence is evident in the high standard of work produced by the students and the accolades received.
Adding to the excitement of the evening, several local employers presented a number of the awards. These included Dave Meadows, Managing Director of Pushed; Jade Scott, Chief Amazement Officer of The Social Planner; Roger Edwards, TV Camera Operator; Jeremy Lock, Head of Audio at Twofour and BAFTA winner; Tom Palmer of Ocean City Media; and Tom Edwards, Co-Director of Five29. Their presence highlighted the strong connections between the College and the creative industries, providing students with valuable networking opportunities and inspiration.
Amy Edwards, Curriculum Lead for Media, Digital Industries & Performing Arts at the College, said: “I could not be prouder of all our students. Year on year it gets harder and harder for the team to select the winners and this year has been no exception. The students have produced some exceptional work, and the awards ceremony gives us the opportunity to celebrate all the students’ successes with their friends and family. We can certainly see many of our students having a very bright future.”
