City College Plymouth Celebrates Student Achievements at Duke of Edinburgh Awards

City College Plymouth was proud to host the Duke of Edinburgh Awards ceremony yesterday at its on-site restaurant, PL1, to celebrate the outstanding achievements of its students. The Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE), the world’s oldest youth award, is a prestigious recognition of young people’s dedication to developing vital life skills through volunteering, physical activity, skill-building, and challenging expeditions.

Students who participated in the DofE programme at City College Plymouth have demonstrated resilience and determination throughout the process. From planting trees and cultivating wildflower meadows to leading bake sales for local charities, the students have significantly impacted their community through the volunteering component of the award. They have also honed their physical skills through activities like swimming and yoga, developed new talents such as cooking and art, and undertaken challenging expeditions in local countryside settings.

Curriculum Lead & Development Officer for Pre-Employment & Skills Development, Steve Murphy, said, “The Duke of Edinburgh Award is about pushing boundaries, growing individuals, and making a positive contribution to society. Our students have excelled in all areas, and yesterday’s celebration is a testament to their hard work, perseverance, and dedication to self-improvement. We are proud to see them grow and thrive, and I want to extend a special thank you to our Skills Development staff who have gone above and beyond to support these students every step of the way.”

The celebration event saw many of the students recognised for their achievements, and highlights City College Plymouth’s commitment to offering diverse learning opportunities that build both academic and personal skills. The College is proud to contribute to the development of young people and equip them with the tools needed to succeed in life.
