New Pastoral Suite at City College Plymouth Prioritises Students’ Mental Health

City College Plymouth has officially launched its brand new Pastoral Suite – a dedicated space designed to support the mental health and wellbeing of students. This facility is a crucial addition to the College’s comprehensive wellbeing services, offering students access to pastoral care, counselling, and mental health guidance.

The Pastoral Suite will provide students with a safe, secure environment to navigate their emotional challenges, ensuring they have the support needed to thrive both personally and academically. The new facility is part of City College Plymouth’s broader strategy to enhance student wellbeing and promote a holistic approach to education.

City College Plymouth has partnered with Livewell Southwest, a key local provider of mental health services, to ensure that students not only receive on-site support but are also connected to wider community services. This collaboration ensures that students have access to the full range of care they may need, both inside and outside of the College.

Chief Executive, Jackie Grubb said: “The wellbeing of our students is at the heart of everything we do at City College Plymouth. The launch of the Pastoral Suite is a key part of our commitment to providing holistic support, ensuring that every student has access to the help they need, whether it’s emotional, mental health, or pastoral care. Alongside existing services like the College’s Lighthouse Wellbeing Centre, this new space will further enhance our ability to offer tailored, compassionate support in a safe and welcoming environment.”

Geoff Baines, Deputy Chief Executive of Livewell Southwest, said: “It’s fantastic to be part of the opening of the Pastoral Suite at City College Plymouth. This shows how, when people come together, special things can happen. The teams, leaders, and everyone involved in pastoral support are really focused on student wellbeing and mental health, and it’s wonderful to see. Livewell is delighted to be invited to support this process – congratulations to the entire team for what they’ve achieved.

“Livewell and City College have a long history of working together, not just in pastoral care, but also in creating employment opportunities and supporting the health and social care industries in Plymouth. This is yet another example of our strong collaboration, highlighting Livewell’s role in mental health support and the vital importance of pastoral care for students at City College.”

The launch of the Pastoral Suite reflects City College Plymouth’s commitment to nurturing student success through holistic support services. By offering these resources, the College aims to ensure that no student is left without the help they need to succeed.
