With an economy worth £65billion a year and a region ripe for trade and investment, business and their people are the beating heart of the South West.
Business Area Building Encouraging Entrepreneurship
The region is home to 130,000 companies spanning a wide range of sectors, and demand from employers for skilled people is only going to increase.
The modernisation and redevelopment of the business teaching area will enable an innovative approach to meet those evolving needs across the city and the region.
A new Business and Innovation Hub lies at the heart of this dynamic and flexible space. The modern and professional design will offer a vibrant and welcoming environment for employers, where they can interact with students, working closely with them to encourage entrepreneurship.
The students will manage their space, running their own small businesses and start-ups, working collaboratively with peers across the city. Improvements include boardrooms, an innovative lecture space, and independent study areas.
We all want our region to grow, and improving skills and productivity are key to making this happen. The broad variety of industries in our region, such as marine, hospitality, defence and care, requires a constant stream of creative and ambitious people with project and team management skills.
The development of the business teaching area will help meet that need, and allow us to continue our work with a range of SMEs and micro businesses from start-ups and social enterprises to online and established companies. SMEs play a vital role in the regional economy, accounting for around 70 per cent of jobs in the private
sector. The jobs they generate call for a broad range of skills, driving employment and economic growth. The College already works with a range of representative organisations, and will encourage them into the hub to work with students, reflecting the diversity within the city and the wider rural community.
T Level students will project manage level 2 students to develop and deliver products and services. Much of that work will be centred on e-commerce, including designing websites, apps and the development of social media activity.
