This course will help maximise your opportunities for employment within a wider accountancy context. The course has been designed with the use of extensive consultation and input from a wide variety of stakeholders, including industry experts, employers and training providers.

Course Units 


Financial Accounting 


This unit covers: 

  • the reporting frameworks that underpin financial reporting 
  • the accounting process 
  • accounting standards for non-current assets 
  • other key accounting standards 
  • preparing financial statements 
  • ratio analysis. 

Management Accounting 

This unit covers: 

  • the organisational planning process 
  • cost and management accounting techniques to aid control 
  • techniques to aid short-term and long-term decision making 
  • organisational liquidity.

Audit and Internal Controls 

This unit covers: 
  • the role of internal controls within an organisation 
  • the audit and assurance framework 
  • the planning and risk assessment process for audit engagements 
  • internal control systems as part of the audit process 
  • procedures for obtaining sufficient and appropriate evidence 
  • review and report findings.

Principles of Taxation 

This unit covers: 
  • the United Kingdom (UK) tax system and ethical behaviour 
  • Income Tax and National Insurance contributions 
  • the different types of income 
  • Capital Gains Tax 
  • tax computations for trading companies 
  • administrative requirements of the UK’s 
  • tax regime
    tax planning opportunities. 
Advanced Business Awareness
This unit covers: 
  • business decision making 
  • organisational effectiveness 
  • ethics and law in an accounting environment 
  • the effective use of data in business 
  • the importance of sustainability in business. 

To be successful on this level of course, you will need: 

  • a level 2 qualification in English and maths 
  • an AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting (Merit) or a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance, or a similar qualification. 

The registration fee for this course is £251 (subject to change). This fee is paid directly to AAT.

You will be assessed through controlled assessments and exams.  

Upon successful completion, you could progress into employment within the industry.
