What's it all about?

Are you aged 16-18, passionate about the fast-paced world of technology and keen to kickstart a career in IT? This hands-on course is designed to position you at the forefront of the digital sector by focusing on the essential skills employers are looking for. You will delve into the mechanics of the online world, exploring how the internet and digital services operate, while also mastering website development to create functional, responsive sites from scratch.

To ensure you are ready for the industry, you will build a professional digital portfolio to showcase your growing expertise and projects to future employers. Beyond the classroom, you will gain invaluable practical experience through in-house IT work experience with the College’s dedicated IT team, giving you real-world insight into IT support and network management. This course isn’t just about learning; it’s about doing and creating. If you are not quite ready for a level 2 course, you can also achieve this qualification at level 1, with a supportive team here to help you get the best possible result.

Course information

During this 16-week course, you will:

  • explore the online world
  • build a digital portfolio 
  • develop skills in website creation.

You will also have the opportunity to:

  • study English and maths (depending on your GCSEs)
  • complete 15 hours of work experience.

In order to succeed on this course, you will need one of the following:

  • four GCSEs at grades 3-1 (including English and maths)
  • a BTEC foundation diploma in a related subject
  • an NVQ level 1/technical certificate in a related subject
  • equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

You will be assessed through a variety of methods including assignments and exams.

On successful completion, and achievement of maths and English, you can progress onto Level 3 Computing, or a T Level in Digital Production, Design & Development at the College.
