With big plans for the future, Izzy Tozer, a former Plymstock School pupil, knew there was just one course for her when it came to her post-16 plans.
Having grown up with connections to the creative industries, Izzy has a deep love for live events and one day hopes to travel the world with her own business. When it comes to an industry such as this, the only way to really learn the required skills is through plenty of hands-on experience, which is what Izzy said was the best thing about the course.
Izzy said: “I love the fact the College allows us to work on a variety of real life events. We get to take on the different roles giving us loads of insight into what the various jobs are like, giving us loads of experience that will be vital later on in our careers.
“I love live music, going to concerts and the theatre, and I knew for a while that I wanted to work in the events industry when I’m older and this is the best course to support my ambitions.”
Izzy, who is studying for a Level 3 Diploma in Live Events Production, said the lecturers work really hard to support their students. “You benefit from regular one-to-ones with the lecturers,” Izzy explained. “They will take time to go through our previous work and look at where we can improve before setting achievable targets. They also take the time to listen to our concerns – we all feel really supported on the course.”
Izzy found out about the course with some support from a careers advisor at school. With her future plans including university, Izzy considered staying at Plymstock to do A Levels; however, after seeing the College’s facilities, she chose to study the extended diploma which will enable her to progress to university.
Izzy added: “If you are interested in lighting, sound, rigging, camera management or working in different productions, this course provides the opportunities to learn or further these skills. It’s a really exciting course with lots of hands-on opportunities and the people are great. I love being able to share my passion for live events with the people on my course.”
