Monterey House
Driven by a desire to boost his self-confidence and discover new talents, Liam began his journey at City College Plymouth’s Monterey House venue for autistic students in 2017.
With a keen interest in music and creative arts, Liam immersed himself in his course at Monterey House, which laid the groundwork for his future plans. Soon after, Liam progressed to the College’s Skills Development department and spent a year developing his skills in the automotive sector.
“That year was a turning point for me. It’s where I discovered my passion for cars and mechanics and I understood what it was that I really wanted to do.”
The course allowed Liam to gain the essential skills and confidence needed to pursue further education in the field, and enabled him to join the Level 1 Automotive course. Despite facing unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Liam’s determination never wavered and he was given the chance to undertake an Apprenticeship at a local garage. This practical experience allowed him to apply his knowledge and skills in a real-world setting, further cementing his passion for automotive skills.
“The Apprenticeship was a game-changer. It allowed me to put everything I learned into practice and grow even more as a professional.”
Now, as he stands just two months away from completing his Level 3 Automotive Skills Apprenticeship, Liam looks back on his journey with immense appreciation for the College and Monterey House.
“Getting to this point in my career is all thanks to Monterey House and the help and support I’ve received since then. It’s opened up a lot of opportunities to me and I’m really grateful.”
