About the course

Today’s media industry is ever-expanding with opportunities to work within a multitude of creative areas.  This course is suitable for anyone who would like to work as a creative media technician and will teach you the skills necessary to succeed in the industry.

T Levels are a brand-new qualification designed to give you a head start towards the future you want. They follow GCSEs and are equivalent to three A Levels.

This two-year T Level qualification brings classroom and work placement together on a course designed with employers and businesses.

You’ll spend 80% of your time in the classroom and 20% on a 45-day placement to give you the skills and knowledge employers are looking for.

Your T Level will help you to step straight into your chosen career, an Apprenticeship or a degree.

What you'll learn

Core Content

You will develop a core knowledge and understanding of:

  • the creative economy
  • the individual in the creative industries
  • cultural context and vocabulary
  • audience
  • legislation/ regulation
  • professionalism and ethics
  • equality, diversity and inclusion
  • research skills
  • project methodology and administration
  • continued professional development.

 

In addition to the core content, you will also complete at least one of the following modules of occupation-specific content.

Content Creation and Production

  • Generate ideas for content development for different platforms.
  • Plan the production of the required content for different platforms (including but not exclusive to moving/still image, audio and written word).
  • Create and deliver the required content for the chosen platforms and/or venues (including but not exclusive to moving/still image, audio and written word) coordinating with others where appropriate.
  • Evaluate the extent to which the content and plan meet objectives taking on board feedback.

Creative Media Technician

  • Create and deliver the required content for the chosen platforms and/or venues (including but not exclusive to moving/still image, audio and written word) coordinating with others where appropriate.
  • Evaluate the extent to which the content and plan meet objectives taking on board feedback.
  • Prepare, package and deliver edited media assets.
  • Preserve media assets for future use/reversioning.
Entry requirements

To be successful on this level of programme you will need an appropriate functional level of English and maths to be able to fulfil the coursework requirements. We welcome applications from those who have one or more of the following:

  • five GCSEs at grades 9-4; you must have gained a grade 4 in English and a grade 5 in maths.
  • a BTEC Level 2 certificate or equivalent graded merit or above
  • successful completion of an Apprenticeship programme.

Please note that this course is currently only for 16 to 18-year-olds.

Assessments/Exams

Assessment will be through written and practical coursework, employer projects, group work, presentations and analysis.

Fees quoted apply to courses starting in the academic year 2022/23 (August 2022 – July 2023). There may be a slight increase in fees for courses starting 2023/24.

If you are aged 16-18, due to Government funding, tuition fees may not be applicable for your course. (Please note: this does not apply to Foundation Degrees or Access to Higher Education courses, and other courses not eligible for public funding.)
