You will develop your critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills while connecting with others who share your curiosity. If you enjoy lively conversation, new viewpoints, and the opportunity to reflect on the world through literature, this is the perfect place to start.

Course information

Reading Club is a friendly, relaxed course for anyone who wants to enjoy reading and build confidence. You will look at a variety of interesting texts, including short stories, poems, articles, and extracts, and talk about what they mean and why they matter. The course gives you plenty of opportunities to share ideas, listen to others, and take part in group discussions at your own pace. It is a supportive way to improve reading, speaking, listening, and thinking skills while discovering the enjoyment of reading together.

This course is open to anyone with an interest in reading and discussion. No formal qualifications are required, and you do not need to be an experienced reader to join. The course is designed to support students at different starting points, including those returning to study or building confidence with reading. An interest in sharing ideas, listening to others, and taking part in group activities is all you need.

There are no assessments other than your feedback.

This course can lead on to further study at the College, including English Functional Skills/ GCSEs and other adult learning courses such as Access to Higher Education. It also helps develop important skills for work, such as confidence, communication, listening, and reading, which can support progression into a wide range of employment opportunities.
