About the course

This course is a proven route into employment or higher education. The course combines a variety of modules to provide you with an outstanding level of sports knowledge, while being able to learn and improve your skills as a fitness industry practitioner of the future. The course will allow you to develop skills and knowledge both inside a theory and practical setting and is an essential qualification for those interested in working in the competitive sports and fitness industry.

By completing this course, you will also a gain a CIMSPA-recognised Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing.

What you'll learn

The course covers a variety of modules over its two year duration. This includes all sports aspects from anatomy and physiology, to sports injuries. This new and exciting fitness pathway has been specifically designed by lecturers to allow you to develop a range of skills in and around the fitness industry.

Entry requirements

You will need to have a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including maths or English.

Assessments/Exams

The course is assessed via coursework, which includes practical assessments and tasks that involve working with the public to ensure you have experience of proving appropriate client care. In the second year, this course includes an external research task,  set and marked by the awarding body. This will help you gain the research skills that are crucial if you wish to study at university-level.

Those wishing to enter employment could further enhance their skills and knowledge by studying an additional level 2 or level 3 qualification offered at the College, such as sports massage, kettlebell instruction, circuit training and more.

Fees quoted apply to courses starting in the academic year 2020/21 (August 2020 – July 2021). There may be a slight increase in fees for courses starting 2021/22.

If you are aged 16-18, due to Government funding, tuition fees may not be applicable for your course. (Please note: this does not apply to Foundation Degrees or Access to Higher Education courses, and other courses not eligible for public funding.)
