What's it all about?

Do you want to be at the forefront of sports rehabilitation, helping athletes recover and excel?

This one-year top-up degree is for those who have completed a Foundation Degree in either Strength and Conditioning or Sports Therapy. While you will continue to specialise in your chosen field, you will also study a module in the opposing field along with modules focused on rehabilitation. This will enable you to develop the knowledge and skills required to work as a sports rehabilitator. You will build on your specialisation and broaden your skills and knowledge in sports rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, sports therapy, sports research, and clinical practice.

Course information

This one-year top-up degree is designed for those who have completed a Foundation Degree in either Strength and Conditioning or Sports Therapy. You will continue to specialise in your chosen field while also studying a module in the opposite field and modules focused on rehabilitation. This approach will equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to work as a sports rehabilitator, enhancing your expertise in sports rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, sports therapy, sports research, and clinical practice.

You will also have access to the latest technologies in our Sports Therapy Clinic and Performance and Rehabilitation Centre. Our degree focuses on real-life practical, hands-on application alongside the theoretical academics underpinning the application of sports rehabilitation. There will be opportunities to work with Plymouth Argyle, Plymouth Raiders, and our own sports teams. We pride ourselves on our supportive and nurturing environment to provide skilled sports rehabilitators. 

You will be trained by industry specialists in sports therapy, health and fitness, strength and conditioning, exercise physiology, and sports science. This will comprehensively broaden your skills and understanding of sports therapy and injury rehabilitation and the various roles of a dynamic and multi-skilled sports medicine team.

You must have successfully completed study at levels 4 and 5 in strength and conditioning to be eligible for the Strength and Conditioning Pathway.
You must have successfully completed study at levels 4 & 5 in sports therapy to be eligible for the Sports Therapy Pathway.
Those who have successfully completed study at levels 4 and 5 in a related subject will be considered on an individual basis (interview and proof of transcript may apply).

This degree is assessed using various methods such as:

  • coursework
  • exams/tests
  • practicals
  • individual research project.

On successful completion, you may be able to progress onto:

  • further study at various educational institutions
  • a wide range of careers in health, fitness and sports therapy, including sports therapist, sports rehabilitator and physiotherapist assistant.
