Leadership and Management: Organisational Awareness

This comprehensive CMI Award equips you with the foundational knowledge required to understand how businesses operate strategically and how you fit into that bigger picture as a leader. You will begin by summarising the unique characteristics, legal structures, and funding models of different types of organisations, while exploring how internal and external forces – such as PESTLE and SWOT factors – influence a business’s ultimate ability to succeed.

The course will show you how senior leadership uses strategic business plans to map out and achieve long-term corporate goals, and you will evaluate how different types of organisational cultures can either drive success or create barriers to growth. Crucially, you will describe how aligning an organisation’s values, ethics, and workplace behaviours creates a powerful framework that supports these strategic goals from the top down. Finally, you will tie all these concepts together by examining the vital role of first line managers, learning exactly how operational supervisors act as the critical bridge that translates high-level corporate strategy into frontline success.

Sessions will include theory, models, case studies, group and paired creative activities. You will apply your own workplace practices to your work, reflect and think critically whilst supporting and learning from your peer group.

A structured workbook will be required to be completed incrementally on a weekly basis, breaking the tasks into manageable segments. You will receive guidance and support on conducting research and applying proper referencing techniques.
