What's it all about?

Develop your bricklaying skills to an advanced craft level and prepare for employment and progression within the construction industry.

This practical level 3 course builds on existing bricklaying skills and introduces more complex and decorative masonry techniques, alongside the technical knowledge required by today’s construction industry.

You will develop skills in constructing complex masonry structures and decorative brickwork while building your knowledge of construction information, quantities and costings, sustainability, health and safety and advanced craft bricklaying principles.

The course is ideal for those who have successfully completed level 2 bricklaying and want to develop towards advanced craft, employment or future supervisory roles.

Course information

The course combines advanced practical bricklaying with the technical knowledge required by craft bricklayers working within the construction industry.

You will study:
• construction health and safety
• craft bricklaying knowledge
• sustainable construction
• communication, quantities, costings and information in a construction environment
• constructing complex masonry structures
• constructing decorative brickwork.

Practical work develops advanced masonry skills including complex structures and decorative brickwork, with an emphasis on accurate setting out, interpretation of construction information, quality of finish and working to occupational standards.

Theory develops understanding of materials, construction methods, sustainability, quantities and costings, communication, technical information and safe working practices.

In order to be successful on the course you should have successfully completed a level 2 bricklaying qualification, or be able to demonstrate equivalent relevant knowledge and practical bricklaying skills.

You should also have a genuine interest in progressing within the construction industry and demonstrate the attendance, attitude, commitment and practical ability required for advanced-level study.

Assessment takes place throughout the course using a combination of practical assessments, observation of occupational skills, knowledge assessment, written/project-based work and questioning.

You will be required to demonstrate both the practical competence and underpinning knowledge required by the qualification. Practical assessments are completed under specified assessment conditions and evidence is internally assessed and quality assured in accordance with NOCN requirements.

Successful completion can support progression into employment within the construction industry as a craft bricklayer and provide a foundation for progression into supervisory or team-leading roles.

You may also progress to higher-level construction qualifications, including construction site supervision and management pathways, subject to individual entry requirements.

Please note fees are quoted for one year only.
