As a Craft Carpentry and Joinery Apprentice, you’ll be at the heart of construction projects, developing expertise in measuring, cutting, and fitting timber components to precise specifications. Your attention to detail and craftsmanship will be essential in ensuring that structures are not only functional but also meet high-quality standards. Whether working on residential, commercial, or industrial projects, you’ll contribute to shaping the built environment.

Your responsibilities will include reading and interpreting technical drawings, selecting appropriate materials, and using a range of hand and power tools to construct and install frameworks, staircases, doors, windows, and other wooden elements. You’ll also be trained in health and safety procedures, ensuring that work is carried out efficiently and in compliance with industry regulations.

Through your Apprenticeship, you’ll gain hands-on experience in both structural and architectural carpentry, learning essential skills such as site preparation, material selection, and precision installation. You’ll also develop problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and adaptability – key qualities for success in the dynamic construction sector. Whether you’re crafting bespoke woodwork or constructing large-scale frameworks, you’ll play a vital role in bringing designs to life and contributing to the future of the built environment.

Course information

This Apprenticeship covers various areas including the following:

  • constructing and installing structural and architectural elements
  • interpreting and following technical drawings
  • selecting and using appropriate tools, materials, and equipment 
  • ensuring work meets industry standards and regulations
  • maintaining health and safety procedures on-site. 
 
This Apprenticeship spans 15 months, offering apprentices hands-on experience and practical knowledge in various aspects of carpentry.

For the best chance of success, learners are required to have a minimum of grade 4 (C) in English and maths.

The end point assessment consists of three components: a multiple-choice test, a practical assessment with questions and an interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.

Following successful completion, you could progress onto employment within the sector. This could include roles such as an Architectural Joiner, a Master Carpenter, a Site Carpenter, etc.
