Elham

Level 2 Painting & Decorating

Four years ago, Elham moved to the UK as a refugee.

After spending nine months adjusting to her new life, she decided to pursue her education and began her studies at City College Plymouth in a bid to further her prospects. Supported by College lecturer, Kate, Elham started her journey in construction with a course in painting and decorating.

“I initially enrolled on the level one course in painting and decorating, along with functional skills in maths and English. I quickly progressed to level two and I was extremely motivated to keep following my dreams.”

Elham successfully completed her courses at the College and decided she was ready to take her next step – a relocation to London. While working as a barista, Elham applied to universities in the city to continue studying and fulfil her dream of completing a degree. After a year of hard work, she was accepted to study interior architecture and design at London Metropolitan University.

Now a bachelor’s student, Elham’s life is a far cry from what it was four years ago and she continues to feel grateful not only to City College but the staff members who helped her along the way.

“Every part of my life has undergone a remarkable transformation. I owe it all to my experience at City College and the support I received from Kate. I wouldn’t be here without that.”
