What's it all about?

This qualification covers higher accounting tasks including: drafting financial statements, managing budgets and evaluating financial performance. You will also have the option to complete more specialised units. If you successfully complete the advanced diploma in accounting you can apply for AAT associate bookkeeping membership and become a professional AAT Bookkeeper (AATQB).

Course information

The Level 3Diploma in Accounting will enable you to master the more complex accounting disciplines including:

  • business awareness
  • final accounting – preparing financial statements
  • management accounting techniques
  • tax processes for businesses.

For the best chance of success, students are required to have a level 2 in English and maths. You will have to pass an initial assessment in English and maths, and you will need to demonstrate a genuine interest in the subject. You will also need to have a Level 2 Certificate in Accounting (Merit). Students on this course will need to pay a registration fee of £228 direct to the AAT.

It is recommended that all students purchase the study texts (available from Kaplan). Some will be available in the College’s Digital Learning Quarter to borrow. 

You will be assessed by controlled assessments/exams and a synoptic assessment.

Upon successful completion you may progress to the Foundation Degree in Business Management at the College.

Examples of progression into employment include:

  • accounts assistant
  • accounts payable and expenses supervisor
  • credit control
  • finance assistant.
