As a Building Services Engineering Installer Apprentice, you’ll be at the heart of construction projects, developing expertise in working with pipework, fittings, and components to ensure safe and efficient mechanical systems. Your role will be crucial in delivering high-quality installations that meet safety, environmental, and industry standards. Whether working on heating, ventilation, or plumbing networks, you’ll play a key part in shaping modern infrastructure.

Your responsibilities will include complying with health, safety, and environmental regulations, planning and organising installation tasks, and preparing work areas for pipework installation. You’ll develop skills in pipework fabrication, jointing techniques, and testing, ensuring installations are carried out to high professional standards.

Additionally, you’ll communicate effectively with project teams, clients, and specialist contractors while maintaining work areas to prescribed cleanliness and safety standards. Completing work documentation and refining practical skills in workshop and on-site techniques will also be an integral part of your training.

Course information

This Apprenticeship covers various areas, including the following:

  • constructing and assembling building components
  • interpreting and following technical drawings and specifications
  • using a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively
  • applying health and safety regulations on-site
  • working with different materials, including timber, concrete, and steel
  • collaborating with other trades to complete construction projects. 
This Apprenticeship spans 24 months, offering apprentices hands-on experience and practical knowledge in various aspects of building construction, including structural work, material handling, technical planning, and site safety within a professional environment. 


For the best chance of success, learners are required to have a minimum of grade 4 (C) in English and maths.

The end point assessment consists of three components: a multiple-choice test, a practical test with questions and an interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.

Following successful completion, you could progress onto employment within the sector. This could include roles such as a Heating Engineer, Plumbing Installer, Maintenance Engineer, etc.
