What's it all about?

Do you want to take your barbering skills to the next level?

This course is designed to extend your knowledge beyond the basics and enhance the skills you have learned at level 2.

It is also suited for experienced hairdressers looking to diversify and develop specific skills in male grooming techniques to expand their current client base.

Cutting skills are among the most important you will need as a barber. This course covers various aspects of cutting men’s hair, neckline shapes, beards, moustaches, facial shaving, and massages. Most clipper work at level 3 is freehand, which will enhance your skills and creativity. Additionally, hot towel shaving will help you maximise business opportunities.

Course information

On this course, you will learn how to:

  • monitor and maintain health and safety practices in the salon
  • provide consultation support for colleagues on hair services
  • cut men’s hair to create a variety of looks
  • cut facial hair to create a variety of looks
  • provide shaving and face massage services.

In our experience in order to be successful on this course you will need one of the following:

  • a level 2 certificate in barbering
  • a level 2 qualification in hairdressing (this must include men’s hair cutting)
  • three years’ industry experience.

You will be assessed through both exams and practical assessments.

Although block heads are used for practice, in order to gain the most from your course we strongly encourage you to provide models/clients for the practical sessions for you to practise and showcase your skills on. Assessments will need to be undertaken on live models and we invite you to actively promote yourselves to build up a bank of clients for these occasions.

On successful completion you may progress to the Level 2 Course in Hairdressing at the College, work as an Improver in a Barber’s shop, work on a cruise ship, become a specialist technician, or pursue a junior role in a salon.

Please note fees are quoted for one year only.
