What's it all about?

Are you aged between 14 and 16 with an interest in food and drink? Maybe you have decided you’d like career in the industry, or you want to prepare for a job to support you while you study? City College Plymouth runs a Junior Bar and Barista Academy, one evening per week between 5.00pm and 7.30pm. For those who are thinking of a career in the food service industry, it will whet your appetite for joining us in the future to train professionally at City College Plymouth. Working with our professional chef lecturers in our award-winning bar and restaurant, this six-week course will give you a taste of working in the beverage industry. You’ll learn how to make delicious hot drinks and non-alcoholic cocktails, as well as gain experience of using industry-standard equipment.

We will supply all the ingredients, and any equipment that you will need to fully participate in all activities. Please wear a long-sleeved top, full length trouser (not jeans) and flat shoes with a non-slip bottom (not trainers).

 

 

Course information

Working in our professional bar and restaurant, you’ll learn how to prepare a variety of hot beverages and mix non-alcoholic cocktails. We’ll also teach you essential customer service skills, as well as table service (including silver service) and flambe service.

 

 

You will need to be aged 14 to 16 and have a genuine interest in learning barista and bar skills.

 

 

There are no exams.

 

 

You may wish to choose catering as a career following this course and will have better skills if you wish to pursue a full-time hospitality and catering programme or Apprenticeship at the College.
