What's it all about?

Are you looking to begin a career in the performing and production arts industry? If so, this new course could be perfect for you! Aimed at young people who are passionate about performance and looking to begin their training, this Level 1 Diploma will be taught in a highly specialist environment at our new state-of-the-art STEM building.

You’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills as both an individual and a member of a performance ensemble. You will be involved right from the start in an in-depth experience of performing and production arts. The course covers a broad range of subjects, and you’ll develop your skills in performance-making across a wide range of disciplines, including acting, movement, musical theatre and production.

The units that you’ll study on the course will lead to opportunities to perform, sometimes at large-scale public performances. You’ll also develop your skills in maths and English, leading to a GCSE or Functional Skills qualification.

Course information

This course includes the following subjects:

  • introduction to music, performing and production arts
  • introduction to research for music, performing and production arts
  • communicating with an audience for music and performing arts
  • production development for music and performing arts
  • performance development for music and performing arts
  • music, performing and production arts project – level 1
  • music, performing and production arts project – level 2.

There are no specific entry requirements for this course, but you must have a strong interest in performing arts.

You will be assessed throughout each stage of the course. This will include projects, ongoing rehearsal and performance work, practice routine, practical assessment and evaluation.

On successful completion of this course, you may be able to progress onto a level 2 course in Performing Arts, with a view to eventually working in the industry.
