This course is designed for those looking to enhance their plastering skills and advance their careers in the construction industry. It provides a comprehensive understanding of plaster skimming techniques, health and safety practices, and the essentials of self-employment in construction.

Course information

The qualification includes the following three mandatory units … 

1. Skills for Plaster Skimming
  • Preparation for plastering tasks
  • Techniques for mixing and applying plaster
  • Practical skills in achieving a professional finish
2.  Introduction to Self-employment in Construction
  • Basics of starting and managing a self-employed plastering business
  • Understanding business responsibilities and client relations
3. Introducing Health and Safety in Construction
  • Health and safety regulations in the construction industry
  • Identification of risks and hazards
  • Importance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

You must have prior experience using plastering tools, whether through previous work or training. This qualification is not suited for those without any plastering background.

Assessment for this qualification includes a combination of practical tasks and
knowledge-based evaluations:

  • Practical Assessments: demonstrate the ability to prepare, apply, and finish plaster to industry standards.
  • Coursework/Projects: involves written assignments and projects related to health
    and safety, as well as self-employment in construction. 

Upon successful completion, you may:

  • progress into employment – enter the workforce as a qualified plaster skimmer
  • undertake a Level 2 Plastering Apprenticeship.
