What's it all about?

In a digital society, cyber attacks and digital crime are becoming an increasing threat to individuals and businesses. Cyber security is therefore a major priority for many organisations and there is a demand for skills related to cyber security. 

Within this course, you will learn techniques and security checks needed to store data securely. This online course is a key starting point for anyone looking to learn more about cyber security.

Course information

This course is made up of the following six units: 

• introduction to cyber security 
• understand terminology used in cyber security 
• understand legal and ethical aspects of cyber security 
• understand common threats to cyber security 
• understand methods of maintaining cyber security 
• working with others in cyber security. 

The course is open to anyone who is interested in developing knowledge and skills in cyber security. 

In order to study this course for free you will need to: 
• be unemployed, available for work AND in receipt of state benefit OR earning less than £20,319 a year (gross salary) 
• be currently living in England 
• have been resident in the UK/EU for three plus years, for purposes other than study
• be over the age of 19 
• not be on an Apprenticeship programme. 

Online work is assessed. There are no exams. 

You may progress onto level 3 courses such as the Level 3 in Coding Practices, Access to HE – Computing or an Apprenticeship.
