What's it all about?

Phone apps, websites, social media all rely on code that strings together the digital world around us. Many employers are now seeking talent with the skills and ability to write code. 

If you want to gain an introduction to coding, this qualification is for you!

It will provide you with a strong foundation to enhance your digital knowledge and progress onto higher level courses. With the world evolving digitally, coding skills are more important than ever before. 

Course information

This course is made up of the following five units: 

• the principles of coding 
• terminology used in coding 
• coding design principles 
• the processes and practices of coding 
• the importance of communication and project management in coding 

The course is open to anyone who is interested in developing knowledge and skills in coding.
In order to study this course for free you will need to: 

• be unemployed, available for work AND in receipt of state benefit OR earning less than £20,319 a year (gross salary) 
• be currently living in England 
• have been resident in the UK/EU for three plus years, for purposes other than study
• be over the age of 19 
• not be on an Apprenticeship programme. 

Online work is assessed. There are no exams. 

You may progress onto level 3 courses such as the Level 3 in Coding Practices, Access to HE – Computing or an Apprenticeship.
