As a Property Maintenance Operative, you’ll play a crucial part in maintaining and preserving the quality of various properties, ensuring they remain in top condition for all occupants. You will be responsible for a wide range of maintenance tasks, from routine inspections to minor repairs. Your duties will include ensuring the safety and operational efficiency of electrical, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning systems. You will also perform general building fabric maintenance, such as carpentry, plastering, and painting.

This Apprenticeship offers hands-on experience and comprehensive training in essential maintenance skills. You’ll learn to effectively diagnose and fix issues, uphold health and safety standards, and work efficiently to minimise disruption to building occupants. Additionally, you’ll gain valuable insights into property management, customer service, and sustainability practices, helping to enhance the overall quality and value of the properties you maintain.

Course information

This Apprenticeship will cover various areas including the following:

  • health and safety compliance
  • maintaining and repairing plumbing systems
  • electrical maintenance and repairs
  • maintaining and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems
  • general building fabric maintenance and repairs
  • using carpentry skills to maintain and repair building structures
  • ensuring security of premises
  • painting and decorating
  • managing waste and recycling
  • energy, environment, and sustainability practices.
This Apprenticeship spans 24 months, combining practical work experience with study. At least 20% of your time will be dedicated to off-the-job training, where you’ll gain valuable knowledge and skills through structured learning and hands-on practice. The remaining 80% will be spent working within a business environment, applying your learning in real-world scenarios. 

The entry requirements for this Apprenticeship will be decided by the employer, but may typically be five GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above.

The end point assessment will consist of a practical assessment with questions, an interview underpinned by a portfolio and a multiple-choice test.

Following successful completion, you could progress onto employment within the sector. This could include roles such as a property technician, a maintenance technician, etc.
