What's it all about?

This course is designed to develop your practical skills in pattern cutting, garment construction, stitching, and more.

You’ll build a broad set of industry skills and gain a solid understanding of the fashion, textiles, and upholstery sectors.

Throughout the course, you’ll be introduced to stitching techniques using industrial machines; pattern design, creation, and cutting; and creative illustration of your own patterns and styles. You’ll explore a range of methods and techniques, and learn about industry expectations across various career pathways within the textiles field.

The aim of this course is to equip you with a strong foundation of skills, enabling you to move into employment, progress to the Level 2 Certificate in Fashion and Textiles or an Apprenticeship, or even consider starting your own fashion and textiles business.

You will study:

  • principles of fashion and design
  • health and safety
  • pattern construction
  • garment construction
  • stitching skills
  • textiles industry knowledge.

There are no specific entry requirements for this course.

You will be assessed through practical observations, written assignments, and externally marked exams.

Upon successful completion you may progress to:

  • the Level 2 Certificate in Fashion and Textiles
  • an Apprenticeship
  • employment within the sector.,
